TRISTAN & ISOLDE

This is one of those stories that has been told and retold and then told again in every possible way and fashion. Plot changes notwithstanding, there are a few elements of this tale of lust, power and betrayal that remain the same throughout every single version, the main one being how Tristan and Isolde fell fatefully in love with one another. It involves a love potion, which was provided to Isolde by her own maidservant, so that she could drink it and fall in love with King Mark, Tristan’s uncle and Isolde’s intended older husband. However, Isolde and Tristan drank the potion together by mistake, just because they got thirsty—imagine! Which ingredients went into this love potion exactly, one might ask? Regrettably, none of the versions available include a recipe, but we are going to guess: fresh lime juice, a splash of triple sec, two shots of tequila and a pinch of salt. Yes, in light of the consequences (read: wild, libidinous sex), we firmly believe that the love potion the two clandestine lovers quaffed had to be what in the XXI century we commonly refer to as Margarita.
